Kawasaki Ninja 250R Front Mounted 12 Volt Outlet Guide
Introduction
Modern motorcycling, like most contemporary motoring, can involve lots of
electronic conveniences (or distractions) from an MP3 player to a GPS.
To get the most from these electronic items on long trips one needs to be
able to get reliable power to these devices. A fairing mounted 12 volt
outlet can accomplish this quite nicely.
General Comments
- A weather proof 12 volt DC outlet and wire can be purchased at Wal-Mart.
- Stainless steel hardware will have to be purchased at a hardware store or
a well stocked "home center".
- A variable speed Dremel Mototool comes in very handy.
- Solder and shrink wrap all connections.
- Route and secure wiring to avoid contact with the radiator.
- Include an inline fuse holder near the battery terminal.
- Stainless steel hardware will augment the factory fasteners.
-
Clearing the steering is the primary factor in deciding on the mounting
location. The clearance for the power supply and its wiring must be
considered.
- Run individual ground and hot wires to the battery along the central spine of the frame securing with zip ties where needed.
- There
are a variety of "Velcro" products that can be used to temporarily
route and secure the cable from your mobile electronic device to
its associated power supply while they are in use.
- Power outlets were
placed on the left hand side because my mobile electronic device of choice is a GPS

Instructions for the 2005 Ninjette
- The 2005 has the most obvious and serviceable location for
an auxiliary power outlet on the lower
portion of the instrument pod toward the left side of the speedometer
to clear the steering.
- The
installation is very straight forward. Select a location
toward the right bottom of the instrument pod shroud that clears the handlebar
and fork tubes.
-
Use sheet metal screws of about 1/2" long and be sure the mounting
location will not cause the screws to penetrate the speedometer.
- Use a punch to mark the locations of the holes and a
1/4" ratchet handle with appropriate attachment to drive the sheet metal screws into the
instrument pod and fasten the outlet in place.

Instructions for the 2008 Ninjette
- The wrap around "dash" design of the 2008 leaves little room for accessory installation.
- Mount the auxiliary power outlet the left side radiator
fairing between and facing the left lower fairing. This location is
well clear of the steering system and provides ample protected space
for a power supply and its associated cables. The obvious
downside is that this location is rather inconvenient when compared to
the above 2005 installation.
- The radiator fairing is likely to not be
removed as much as the lower fairing.
- Removal of the 2008 front fender is required to provide
clearance for tools and hands during the installation.
- Removal of the left side lower fairing would make boring holes and installation easier.
