Kawasaki Ninja 250R Crank Brothers Multi-5 Tool Mounting Guide
Introduction
One of the amenities I was looking forward to on the new generation Ninja 250R was the reported storage under the seat. To my amazement almost all the "storage space" was taken up with the factory tool kit. Interesting how they claim to have more on board storage but then take it all up with the factory tool kit.
Seriously, does one really need to carry a factory sparkplug wrench on board the motorcycle? Well before I get to the point I have the top of the engine exposed and fairing pieces all over the roadside so I can start pulling sparkplugs I am going to have called the long suffering spouse and ask her to come get me and the Ninjette II with the Escort and our tilt-bed trailer. The most one really needs to do on the road is remove the seat and kneepads to inspect a few connections or have a look at the air filter. To accomplish that one needs 4, 5, and 6 mm hex wrenches and a #2 Philips screw driver.
Being a cyclist I know there are some great compact and light tools on the market. The Crank Brothers Multi-5 tool is just what one needs to carry as it has a 3, 4, 5, and 6 mm hex wrench and a #2 Philips screw driver. Only in rare cases would one need to adjust the rear suspension on the road as most riders will set the shock before they leave home for that trip through the twisties. Even if one elects to keep the suspension tool on board the remainder of the factory tools can reside in the garage tool box. The amount of space provided in combination with the pillion seat cowl should be enough for a small errand or an over night stay if one is a light packer.
