Kawasaki Ninja 250R LED Lighting

 

Introduction

The risk involved in motorcycling is well know to all who participate.  Safety apparel, riding within one's skill level, and visibility are key factors in reducing that risk.  The advent of light modulators and high output LED lighting technology has been a boon to motorcycle visibility.  

Signal Dynamics makes good equipment at reasonable prices so they have been the company I have used for a number of years.  In fact I became a dealer.  The Signal Dynamics Corporation products I installed were the brake/tail Red LED conversion, the Diamond Star Headlight Modulator, the Back Off XP Brake Light Module, the Classic Black LED License Plate Frame, Red LED accent lighting, and a Street Magic Corporation Black Magic wireless LED accent lighting remote control.

 Instructions

• Tools:
  • Soldering iron and solder
  • Double stick mounting tape
  • Zip ties
  • Wire stripper
  • Crimper
  • Heat shrink tubing
  • Pen drill (small manual drill brace for boring holes in plastic -- available at hobby shops)
• Where I was in effect creating a wiring harness I used soldered joints and heat-shrink tubing to keep clutter to a minimum.
• Due to the compactness of the Ninja 250R wiring harness the provided "quick splices" were used to connect modules to the existing electrical system.
• Removal of all rear end plastic is needed to gain full access to install the Back Off XP Brake Light Module and the LED accent lighting.
• Removing the front fender makes installing the Diamond Star Headlight Modulator much easier.  Fortunately removing the front fender on the 2008 is rather elementary.
• Double stick mounting tape and zip ties were used to secure modules where one couldn't use screws or other hardware fasteners.
• The Classic Black LED License Plate Frame cannot be connected to the LED accent lighting system because of shared wiring with the brake light.
