Each comment from a child below indicates how they know their parents love them. What love language are they speaking? Write touch, affirmation, time, gifts, or service in the blank beside each statement to indicate your answer.

    4. ____________ "I know mommy loves me very much. Every morning when she wakes me up she gives me a big hug. Then we give each other a butterfly kiss. Butterfly kisses tickle my cheek," said Ben.

    5. ____________ Toni asked, "Mommy likes to come in my room and play with me. We put puzzles together, play dolls, and act silly. We laugh and laugh together."

Select one of the love languages, touch, words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, or acts of service and briefly describe one way you could "speak" that language to your baby.

  • 6. ____________ Emma was dropping her daughter, Breanne, off at her regular day care. Breanne usually went to her teacher; however, today there was a substitute teacher. Breanne would not let go of Emma’s neck. Finally, Emma was able to get Breanne set down but Breanne turned around and grabbed Emma’s legs in a death grip. It took much coaxing from Emma and the substitute teacher to get Breanne to finally let go. Emma left. Breanne cautiously watched the substitute. It was fifteen more minutes before Breanne would take her place at the table.

    7. ____________ Cody was outside happily playing on his swing set. Janice, his mom, was sunbathing nearby. The two of them were enjoying the pleasant spring day. All of a sudden, Janice heard a loud noise followed by Cody’s screams. Cody had decided to ride his big brother’s skateboard down the slide. The ride was exciting for Cody but the landing at the end was a rough crash. Cody and the skateboard tumbled over and over. Janice kissed Cody’s elbows and knees. He was all right…no broken bones or bleeding. Janice went back to sunbathing and glanced over at Cody just in time to see him carrying the skateboard to the top of the slide for another wild ride.

    8. ____________ Shawna took her daughter, Victoria, to see her first children’s movie in a real theatre. Before the movie began, Victoria climbed from chair to chair; rocked her chair back and forth; discovered that the chair could fold up with a small girl still sitting in it; got her leg caught twice, knock the popcorn out of Shawna’s hands; spilled her drink; and had to go to the potty. Of course, throughout the whole movie, Victoria asked what seemed like a million questions. Shawna felt like she said "Ssshhhh, be quiet Victoria, sit still Victoria, sit down Victoria too many times to count."

    9. ____________ Nathaniel followed his daddy everywhere. Whatever Dad did, Nathaniel imitated it. If Dad were mowing the yard, little Nathaniel would get his toy lawn mower and follow right behind him. If Dad had out his hammer and tools to fix things around the house, Nathaniel rounded up his plastic tools and "helped". Nathaniel was an easygoing little fellow and you could see how happy it made him when his Dad would say, "Nathaniel, you’re the best helper I’ve ever had."
