2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R Rear Seat Cowl Remove and Refit
Introduction
Here is what I have found that works consistently. It took some experimenting to develop this method as I wound up with the cowling rattling around behind me a few times.
Instructions
Removal
Place the key in the rear seat lock.
Carefully pull the rear of the cowling up just enough to clear the grommet.
Turn the key and extract the front pin from the latch. The pin should remain resting in the lock mechanism housing just not latched.
Carefully lift the cowling straight up and fully clear of the body.

Refitting
Place the key in the rear seat lock.
The grommet works better one way than the other (one can get it upside down -- seriously).
Carefully place the cowling on the bike and insure both the front and rear pins are lined up. You will be letting gravity and gentle pressure from you your hand to do the work. There is no need to "manhandle" the cowling into place.
Turn the key just enough that the front pin drops into place. Do not press the front fully into place a this time. Let gravity do the work.
Gently place press the rear of the cowling into the grommet.
Firmly the front of the cowling into the latch until it secures with a click.
