March, 2008
- 7.1 miles -- Set engine idle to about 1250.
- 27.8 miles -- Oil and filter change (Castrol 10W-40) while engine was warm. The engine was allowed to
completely cool. Some visible fine metal shavings deposited on the filter cover.
- 94.4
miles -- Oil and filter change (Castrol 10W-40) while engine was warm.
The engine was allowed to completely cool. Very little in
the way of metal shavings, some metal "dust".
- 222.2 miles
-- Oil and filter change (Rotella T 15W-40). Very little metal "dust".
Adjusted chain slack as I had noted it seemed loose earlier. I don't
recall it looking loose on delivery at the dealership, but after a few
break-in rides I noticed a lot of chain movement in the long shadows of
sunset.
Additionally, the torque on the rear axle nut was set too loose and
the chain slack adjustment nuts were loose. It could be the rear axle actually migrated
while riding.
April, 2008
- 626.4 miles
-- Oil and filter change (Rotella T 15W-40). No discernable metal "dust".
-
827.9 miles -- Lubed chain. Checked tire air pressure. Personally performed
the first checkup as called for in the factory service manual.
- 1203.6 miles
-- Oil and filter change (Rotella T Synthetic
5W-40) lubed chain and checked chain slack. Checked tire air pressure.
May, 2008
- 1734.7 miles
-- Lubed chain. Checked tire air pressure.
June, 2008
-
IC Igniter was verified as a legitimate warranty concern.
July, 2008
- The replacement
IC Igniter was installed with no effect on the tachometer reading.
August, 2008
- 3033.6 miles
-- Oil and filter change (Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40) and checked chain slack (still in spec.). Checked tire air pressure.

November, 2008
- 5286.7 miles -- Installed a
new Bridgestone Battlax BT-45F 130/70 M/C 17 62H on the rear to replace
the stock Dunlop ArrowMax GT501 (for which a replacement could not be
located). Rear tire changing was much easier than on the 2005 due
to the greater height achieved by the rear stand and spool combination
compared with the center stand on the 2005 and better engineering
details on the rear of the 2008. Cleaned and fully lubed chain
and final drive sprocket. Adjusted chain slack to approximately 1
inch Set tire air pressures to 40 PSI front and rear as the
Battlax has a maximum of 41 PSI.

- 6553.6 miles
-- Oil and filter change (Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40) and checked
chain slack (still in spec.). Checked tire air pressure. Oops.
That one got away from me. However, the oil was very clean
and no oil needed to be added between oil changes.

- 9774.8 miles
-- Oil and filter change (Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40). Installed a
new Bridgestone Battlax BT-45F 130/70 M/C 17 62H on the rear and a Bridgestone Battlax BT-45F 110/70H17 to replace
the stock Dunlop ArrowMax GT501 (for which a replacement could not be
located). Cleaned and fully lubed chain
and final drive sprocket. Adjusted chain slack to approximately 1
inch Set tire air pressures to 40 PSI front and rear as the
Battlax has a maximum of 41 PSI.

December, 2009
- 11,369.5 miles -- Installed a new RK RX-Ring chain (520XS0) replacing the stock X-ring (we live on a dusty rock road and the chain had started showing signs of binding). The
sprockets were replaced by JT
Sprockets; JTF 1539.15T and JTR
486.38T to achieve a 2.53 final drive ratio. Adjusted chain slack.

March, 2010
- 12,126.6 miles -- Oil and filter change (Rotella T Synthetic 5W-40) and checked chain slack (still in spec.). Checked tire air pressure. Installed a K&N Air Filter (O.E.M. Replacement Type).

June, 2010
- 14,218.1 miles -- Performed slightly premature valve clearance adjustment on the EX250J due to a new and much needed rear tire being back ordered. Only one exhaust valve was out of sync (slightly loose). The others had moved very little if any. I will likely not check them again until after the 30,000 mile mark. Added a set of new accent LEDs to fully illuminate the forward "shark gills" (Signal Dynamics Modules Installation). Greased cables and changed the coolant.
July, 2010
- 14,297.7 miles -- Installed
new Dunlop ArrowMax GT501R 130/70H 17 on the rear and a Dunlop ArrowMax GT501F 110/70H17 to replace
the Bridgestone Battlax BT-45s as the last two sets have only been getting 4000 to 4500 miles on the rears before hitting the wear bars. I had been very disappointed when the Dunlops that came on this motorcycle could not be replaceed in 2008. The Dunlop ArrowMax GT501s have recently been released in the United States so I took advantage and changed back to the better handling Dunlops. Cleaned and fully lubed chain
and final drive sprocket. Cleaned rear swingarm. Adjusted chain slack to approximately 1
inch Set tire air pressures to 35 PSI front and rear as the
Dunlop ArrowMax GT501s have a maximum of 41 PSI.
